2020 Bringing Safety Home Award Nomination Guidelines
Deadline: April 3, 2020
The nonprofit NFPA Fire Sprinkler Initiative and Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) are teaming up to recognize outstanding efforts by a safety advocate who diligently promotes the importance of home fire sprinklers.
The Bringing Safety Home Award honors members of the fire service and other fire sprinkler advocates who use HFSC, NFPA data, and Fire Sprinkler Initiative resources to educate decision makers on home fire sprinklers and convince them to support sprinkler requirements at the local, state, or provincial level.
Past recipients have included members of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association, who helped defeat a legislative bill that would have weakened Maryland’s requirement for sprinklering the state’s new homes. Fire chiefs influential in passing fire sprinkler requirements in their town have also received this award.
Past recipients of the Bringing Safety Home Award have included Fire Chief Robert Lefebvre from the Gorham (Maine) Fire Department, who has been a champion for the lifesaving benefits of sprinklers for more than 20 years. His work set the stage for the successful adoption of a town-wide ordinance for new homes, which passed in October of 2018 for sprinklers in all new one- and two-family homes. Also recognized were members of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association, who helped defeat a legislative bill that would have weakened Maryland’s requirement for sprinklering the state’s new homes.
The award recipient will receive a plaque and a $1,000 honorarium for home fire sprinkler activities. HFSC and NFPA will also promote the winner via stories appearing on its websites and social media channels.
Please submit your nominations no later than April 3, 2020.
